Personal Profile
Jeremy Slagoski teaches courses and co-administers the English for Academic Purposes/Foundations Writing program at the Ocean University of China. This professorship reacquaints him with his earlier experiences overseas teaching English in Japan and educating teachers in Korea and Russia. Not only does he look forward to teaching English overseas again, but he also looks forward to joining and participating in professional learning networks in China and collaborating on curriculum development. Slagoski worked as a curriculum coordinator at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and developed curriculum for teacher education programs at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul and Kirkwood Community College in Iowa. He also developed curriculum for two EFL teacher education grants he co-wrote in 2016 and 2017.
Slagoski holds a PhD in Foreign Language and English as a Second Language Education from the University of Iowa and an MA in ESOL/Bilingual Education from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. His research focuses on English language teacher, beliefs, and cognition as well as professional learning networks for professional and culture learning. At the University of Iowa, he taught courses in education technology from 2009 to 2012. He expanded his expertise with education technology as an instructional designer at Kirkwood Community College from 2013 to 2015 and as a technology coordinator at Southern Illinois University Carbondale from 2015 to 2017. He hopes to integrate his research and education technology skills into his teaching, research, and curriculum development at the Ocean University of China.
